Synchrodestiny

How many times have you experienced those crazy moments of coincidence, like when you are thinking of someone as you are driving to the store, and then all of a sudden you bump into them in the parking lot? Or, when you have an image of a family member in your mind, and then all of a sudden the phone rings and there they are?

Synchronicity, as I used to call it, is fascinating. But is it simply a random and bizarre occurrence, or is it part of some grander cosmic design? Do you believe in coincidences? Or are there really no accidents?

One of the new things I tried during the pandemic was Deepak Chopra‘s “21 days of abundance” meditation journey. Each morning, I listen to a guided meditation by Dr. Chopra, describing one of the laws of the universe, introducing the mantra of the day, and then leading a 5-10 minute meditation. I learned about the laws of living, loving, pure potentiality, least effort, karma, dharma and, of course, abundance. I enjoyed hearing him say “I’ll mind the time” and that it was “time to release the mantra.” I liked how he invited us to “go within, to that place where we connect with our higher self.” Sometimes during meditation I saw colors and lights, a lot of yellows and oranges, and, during the first week I communed a few times with my dad who died in 2016, which was nice.

Day 15 was about living in synchrodestiny. First I thought he said synchronicity, those events that are “meaningful coincidences” that occur with no apparent causal relationship, yet seem to be meaningfully related. I had never heard of synchrodestiny before. What is that, and how does it relate to synchronicity?

Here’s where it gets ‘deep’ as in Deepak :). Chopra suggests that there is no such thing as a meaningless coincidence, and that all of these moments are actually part of a deeper level of consciousness. They contain purpose and meaning, and have direction and intention. On that Day 15, he talked about living with synchrodestiny, and that through understanding the forces that shape coincidences, we can learn to live at this deeper level of consciousness, and then access the flow of synchronicity, or of these unrelated related events. So, maybe there are no accidents, just coincidences always waiting to happen, or to be seen.

According to Chopra, when coincidences happen and we find synchronicity, we notice that two unrelated events are related and fit together. The synchronicity of the events is like a spark, or a reflection of a greater energy field. In this patchwork quilt of deeper consciousness, all the pieces of course fit together, and coincidences are possible all the time if we learn how to look for them…..or if we use our intention to create them. But that’s for another day.

Typically, we think these coincidences, or moments of synchronicity, are really cool but random, so they stick out in a way that allows us to see them. What if synchronicity, or these moments of possibility, or what he calls pure potentiality, is really there all the time?  In that case, by making synchronicity special and unusual, you might be seeing life upside down. Therefore, if synchronicity is more common and mundane than we realize, might we then see life right side up? Are these moments of synchronicity a delightful surprise, or are they reminder of a deeper field of energy that exists all the time? What do you “sync”?
